Business Consulting

Includes business transformation, change management, IT strategy development and workflow management. Organized around 14 industry segments, Transformation Consulting makes available MEDCOMM’s world-class technologists, applied mathematicians and data mining experts.

Business Performance Consulting

MEDCOMM recommends that CIOs and IT managers implement IT performance management as a continuous process to validate and improve alignment between business and IT. Performance management helps answer questions like:

  • Where can I squeeze more out of our asset infrastructure spending?
  • What processes and systems can I use to align my key IT initiatives with my organization’s strategic imperatives?
  • How do I reduce the complexity of my organization’s IT architecture and make it more agile?

Performance Framework
MEDCOMM has created a framework to identify various processes and technologies within the IT Performance Management umbrella and explain how they relate to each other. In this framework, IT Performance Management solutions can be broken down into three unique areas:

  • Aligning IT and Business Objectives. IT organizations have been using operational systems such as project management and resource management to streamline their overall process and "do things right." However, they might still be working on a wrong set of priorities.
  • Asset Rationalization. Rationalization projects require IT organizations to identify the right opportunities for data center/server consolidation, vendor rationalization, infrastructure re-deployment and contract renegotiation, and then create optimal plans.
  • Risk Reduction. The risk from internal factors is primarily attributed to poor planning and execution of projects and initiatives. By using proven techniques such as program performance management, companies can reduce their internal risk by improving their overall execution of projects and delivering them within budget and on time. New solutions are emerging that leverage analytics to identify security risks and then track remediation progress.

Service Consulting

High tech companies are finding it increasingly difficult to sustain good returns based on technological advantages alone. As their products mature, their gross margins shrink, leaving them looking for new sources of value. MEDCOMM believes these companies have a major opportunity to differentiate their offerings and boost their profits. This opportunity can be realized by transforming their services businesses. We help communications and high tech companies turn their services businesses into profit centers, by increasing service revenues, and reducing operational costs and capital expenditure.

Business Case Planning

Not sure if you should expand or localize? Diversify or specialize? MEDOMM consultants can help you define the direction your company needs to take in order to succeed and will help you identify, acquire and utilize resources to help you strategically manage your time and money.

Scenario Planning

MEDCOMM often uses scenario planning techniques in its consulting work and training courses to gain a clear understanding of the dynamic forces driving change in the industry and the effect these changes will have on client businesses. This understanding is expressed in a set of scenario scripts, which give compelling narratives of how the future may unfold. The process helps you to develop the agility required to gain business advantage in the converging telecoms, IT and media world. Benefits include:

  • Early warning of business risks and opportunities
  • Objective decision support which balances the risks and returns of business options
  • Innovative business ideas
  • Challenge to any assumptions of business-as-usual
  • Common language for strategic debate which helps to capture divergent views across the business

MEDCOMM goes beyond descriptive scenarios to explore the details of business options. We help our clients by:

  • Designing an efficient planning process that is tailored to meet each client’s needs
  • Facilitating workshops to engage, stimulate and challenge the client team
  • Analyzing the risks and rewards of options in order to support decisions
  • Managing the process to deliver results on time.

This understanding is used to review scenarios and develop an adaptive response. The plans become a series of options which are explored, developed and exercised through scenarios to manage the balance of business risks and rewards.

Business Systems Analysis

Early in 2008, MEDCOMM became the first consultancy to deploy business analysts and ethnographic researchers alongside its IT consultants. This multidisciplinary approach enriches our understanding of user, technical and business layers. In addition to technical recommendations, MEDCOMM’s systems and ethnographic analysis generates valuable data that can be used in enterprise analysis, requirements planning, management, analysis, communication and elicitation. Solution assessments and validation are automatically presented as part and parcel of the holistic solutions package.

Business Intelligence & Data Management

Business intelligence and data management can be simplistically defined as the ability to utilize information effectively and productively in order realize strategic business objectives. The outcome of business intelligence is better decisions that improve and optimize business processes. However, MEDCOMM contends an evolution in business intelligence (BI) is underway and that our consultancy’s research activities have positioned us favorably in order to lead this BI transformation.

MEDCOMM has been continually innovating solutions packages to enable organizations to obtain the highest value from their investment in BI-related technologies. MEDCOMM asks, "Can you move resources in advance of a change in the market? Can you realign costs in advance of a change in the market? Can you determine a trend that allows you to drive better customer acquisition?" The ability to strategically and tactically react by having the answers to questions like these is invaluable and is the driver for, in MEDCOMM’s words, "an explosive opportunity."
